Many domestic fires in England are caused by common household appliances such as tumble dryers, washing machines, dishwashers and fridges malfunctioning. These fires could easily be avoided by fitting Firetrace’s automatic fire suppression system.

What The Statistics Say

Government published fire statistics statics for 2015/16 show that 36 percent of accidental household fires in England were caused by “misuse of equipment or appliances, the second largest cause was “faulty appliances and leads” which caused 15 per cent of all accidental dwelling fires.

Additionally, independent research by the consumer group Which? found that from January 2011 to March 2014 over 12,000 fires were caused by faulty household appliances. With the most likely items to cause fires were washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers.  The fires were caused by appliances being faulty, improperly maintained or incorrectly installed.

The Solution

Many of these fires could have been easily avoided by installing an automatic fire suppression system. Firetrace fire suppression systems can be retro fitted to most appliances and offer a simple solution to prevent any fire from escalating. The Firetrace solution uses heat sensitive linear pressurised detection tubing. The tubing on sensing heat or a flame will rupture with the resulting pressure loss opening a pneumatic valve and the deployment of extinguishant. Firetrace is more affordable and reliable than electronic based systems as there is no need for batteries or electric power.
